Replacement theology began when the Church departed from the literal - grammatical - historical interpretation of Scripture, especially Biblical Prophecy and the Premillennial interpretation and understanding of Scripture.

The early Church was Pre-millennial for at least the first two centuries. The allegorising and spiritualising of Scripture - the foundation of Replacement Theology and Amillennialism - began with Origen, Clement of Alexandria and later, Augustine. In their view the Church became, 'spiritual Israel' or the 'New Israel of God', rewriting all the covenant promises of God made to Israel.

Replacement Theology spawned Amillennialism. Theologians developed a system of theology, then fitted Scripture to suit their theology. This is the wrong way to interpret Scripture.

Even the Reformation leaders still retained Replacement Theology of Roman Catholicism. Sadly Replacement Theology within the Evangelical Church also began to grow strong which today can result in a mild form of Antisernitism.

The overall result is Covenant Theology - a man made structure.

To summarise - Replacement Theology teaches:

1) Israel is replaced by The Church, therefore,

2) Israel has no future as a nation.

3) All prophetic and covenant promises are transferred to the Church, (presumably the curses are left to fall on Israel).

4) The Church is found in the Old Testament. This is clear error (see Romans chapter 16: 25-26; Ephesians chapter 8: 1-9; especially verse 9, and Colossians 1:26-27.
